As the new year dawns, it brings with it an atmosphere of wellbeing and inspiration with it. How can we be happier? How can we be healthier? We have done the research for you and rounded up the apps that are a must in 2019.

 

Best for limiting screen time

We all know that getting away from devices, tech and the constant ping of notifications is good for our mental wellbeing so why not download some software to help you. Here are just a few of our favourites.

Freedom:Used by over 750,000 people worldwide, this one is a firm fave. It helps you eliminate distractions by scheduling offline session, creating custom block lists and allows you to set a ‘lock mode’ taking away any temptation to cheat.

Self-Control:This app also allows you to set yourself a password that you can not remember to ensure we are not tempted by those irritating distractions.

Mute:The newest app in this genre having only launched this year. Helps you set ‘digital detox goals’, sends you motivational messages and finally shows you progress stats.

 

Best for relaxation

Happy not perfect:We love their daily refresh where you select your mood and their library of guides written by experts can give you advice on a whole range of challenges. It also encourages you to send good vibes to your friends and we love spreading the love.

 

Calm:This App was named Apple app of the year 2017 for a reason. With itsvoice-led, mini sessions it is manageable even if you have a packed schedule. There’s a library of calming music and a selection of “sleep stories” (bedtime tales for grown-ups), including our favourite read by Stephen Fry and his dulcet tones.

 

AudibleIf mindfulness and meditation isn’t your thing then why not take a little time out and listen to an Audio book? We recently downloaded a Nora Ephron novel read by Meryl Streep. A great way to escape the dramas of every day life whilst on your commute or out for a weekend walk.

 

Best for gathering

Doodle:If you are anything like us, in our increasingly busy lives, you find it impossible to get a date in the diary to see friends. An oldie but a goodie. Doodle is our favourite scheduling app. Simple to send out and quick to fill in. It’s all you could need.

 

Jamie’s Recipes: Not new but a classic for when you need quick and easy recipes to make for friends. With a new set of his favouirte seasonal recipes every Monday, from super-quick suppers and nutritious midweek meals, to dinner-party show-stoppers and naughty comforting treats. All complete with a genius shopping list feature, access to a selection of videos as well as handy how-to guides.

 

Oh She GlowsIf you have any friends coming over with food intolerances or who are partaking in the ever increasingly popular ‘Veganuary’ then this is the app for you. Mouth-watering plant-based recipes that you can filter by allergy, season or dish type.

 

Vivino: This clever little app has33 million users, contributing ratings for millions of wines from around the globe making up the largest wine library in the world. All you do is take a photo of a bottle and the reviews, recommended food pairings and recommended price all pop up. Genius!
